I am a studio ceramic artist in Denver. I work primarily in porcelain and create one-of-a-kind pieces. My approach to clay is sculptural. I enjoy using both thrown and hand-built components to create compositions that, while evoking simplicity and refinement, belie underlying complexity and depth. Even those pieces whose foundation is functional are meant to be sculptural objects. In my work, I am concerned with conveying my interest in the figure, sensations from nature like the flow of water and earth, and the human traits of strength, sensuality and whimsy. Form is of utmost importance. Surface is meant to complement, meld with and enhance the forms I create.
My hope is that others can feel that my work is made with thoughtfulness and reflection, that it is expressive and enduring, and that they delight in an artistic style with layers and overtones that are revealed over time.
